Welcome to Gift Planning
Between 1818 and 1820, Judge James Winthrop and the Rev. William Bentley laid the intellectual foundation of Allegheny College through bequests of their vast personal libraries. When President Thomas Jefferson reviewed our catalog, he wrote that Rev. Bentley's collection was valuable for its “classical riches” while Judge Winthrop's was “inappreciable for the variety of branches of science to which it extends, and for the rare and precious works it possesses in each branch.” He added that at the newly forming University of Virginia, they could not flatter themselves with the hope of such donations as had been bestowed upon Allegheny!
We invite you to learn how you, too, may contribute to this legacy through your own gifts. Planned gifts may be very modest, or they may be quite splashy; there are options for every individual and every budget. They are all critical to our success.
Please browse our site to learn more about options that suit you and your family. You'll find compelling donor stories and additional staff videos highlighting why others choose to give. You'll also discover opportunities to increase your spendable income, avoid capital-gains taxes, plan for your retirement, provide for your loved ones and friends, and reduce or eliminate estate taxes—all while ensuring that future generations of students will experience the full breadth of an Allegheny education. We feature a new story monthly, so we hope you'll visit often.
Thank you for considering Allegheny as you assess your financial and gift planning options. Please contact me for further assistance with your charitable planning for the College and other favored organizations.
